A curated charcuterie, the 5th quarter, thanks to its owner. Scott, regularly has a selection of handpicked meats, both fresh and cured, from a wide variety of regional sources, all of the very best quality, and kept at perfect temperatures for dry aging. Scott also makes one-off sausages, like turmeric, Toulouse, and others, and makes a pretty mean sandwich as well. I'd recommend the Bahn mi.

This is a spot to go if you're one of those people who is really picky about their meat and wants to start with top shelf ingredients. It costs a little bit more, but when you want something special, this is the place to go in the Montclair area.

This place is a deli shop that also makes sandwiches. The review is purely for the sandwiches. We stopped by and got the fried chicken and bahn mi sandos.

The ingredients in each sandwich were really good but unfortunately the sandwich itself was just average.

For the fried chicken sandwich, the chicken inside the sandwich was freshly fried, moist on the inside and well seasoned. On it's own it was delicious. the bread was also very fresh. However, the slaw it comes with has little flavor and there is no sauce / aoili to tie the sandwich together so it ends up tasting like fried chicken with bread.

For the bahn mi, the sandwich had the reverse problem: way too much mayonnaise. I generally love patê and it's a key part of an authentic bahn mi, but this sandwich had way too much of it, and pretty much tasted like a patê sandwich with lots of mayo.

In summary, had high hopes for this place and I'm sure the deli cuts are wonderful but the sandwiches need more work.

Great butcher shop with excellent locally sourced meat selection and made to order sandwiches. Friendly staff who will give solid advice on how to best prepare your cuts.

We love the sandwiches. The sandwiches were very high quality and so yummy. I can't believe they've been here for 5 years and I did not know about them. A treasure for our neighborhood in Montclair. We had the chicken fried sandwich, Meatball sandwich And the ham and cheese sandwich. They were all stellar. Are all happy puppies. It will be back for round 2.

5/4 is our go to charcutier for everything from sausages and pate to ground beef and duck breast.
The service is excellent, the product exquisite (and almost entirely house made), the prices are reasonable for the quality.
Also do not skip their sandwiches. From the grab and go Jambon burre, to their made to order fried chick are great and at a good price.

Love Scott’s shop and always has top choice cuts of a rotating variety and seasonal prepared foods for mid week nights. Also great to pick up special condiments and artisan grains, oils and accoutrements. Highly recommend adding Fifth Quarter to your rotation for culinary delights.

This is one of the best charcuterie shops in the Bay Area. Scott, the owner, is amazing and really knows his stuff. They have an excellent selection of sausages, some gorgeous cuts of meat, and excellent terrines. Make sure to try the duck crepinettes if they are available (basically a sausage patty wrapped in caul fat) and their truly exceptional smoked beef tongue. Don't forget that they make sandwiches for lunch, too. the Ham & butter is pure heaven!

The best thing in Montclair. Chronically understaffed so expect a wait and a half and no chatting. But it’s totally worth it as you’ll gather from the gripe-free line.
