I visited African Grill and Bar on a Friday evening around 6:30 PM, and was immediately seated, which was a pleasant surprise given the usual weekend rush. The service was efficient, and our server was warm and attentive throughout our meal.

For dinner, I ordered the oxtail with jollof rice and spinach stew, while my husband went with the kebab served with spicy jerk stew. Both dishes were packed with flavor, and you could tell that the ingredients were fresh and carefully prepared. The oxtail was tender and perfectly cooked, complementing the rich jollof rice and hearty spinach stew. My husband's kebab had a nice smokiness to it, and the spicy jerk stew gave it a nice kick without overpowering the flavors.

We also tried the fried plantain, which was crispy on the outside and soft on the inside—an excellent side that paired perfectly with our dishes.

Overall, the food was absolutely delicious, and the staff was very friendly, making the entire dining experience enjoyable. I would definitely recommend African Grill and Bar for anyone craving authentic African flavors in Lakewood!

If you desire authentic African cuisine. This is the place. Lunch or dinner, you're bound to find a delectable gem on the menu that will satiate your taste buds. I enjoyed the Chai and the hibiscus ginger juice that I ordered with my meal.

So happy with my entire experience here. The owners and everyone who worked there were incredibly friendly and inviting. This was my first experience with African food like this, so I did not know exactly what to order. They were very helpful in guiding me and my friend towards a few options, and let me say, WOW. Extremely flavorful food that was so delicious and big portions too.

I cannot recommend this place enough and also can’t wait to go back!

My girlfriend and I visited this spot for lunch during our vacation and we were treated very well. The food was very spicy as requested and my girl really loved the egusi soup. I had the white rice and jerk stew which was really good too. Highly recommend!

I had such a wonderful experience here. My cousin introduced me to this place since I didn't know where to go for lunch on my visit to town. This place absolutely did not disappoint.

For the table we ordered fried plantains and ground lamb samosas. The samosas were perfectly fried and not the least bit greasy. Perfect!

With the help from the owners, who were really kind and inviting, I settled on the jollof rice with spinach stew on top of goat. Everything was seasoned and balanced. The goat was tender and really complimented the rice. I also had this refreshing ginger drink. I'm a huge fan.

My cousin and fiancé both went with the fufu, I think. His was spicy. The oxtail was fabulous. She wanted to try the peanut soup she had heard about. It was different than what I had imagined, but in the best way.

I can't wait to come back to visit and try some more dishes. Great food and exceptional hospitality!!

Friendly and efficient customer service! The food was so savory, flavorful, and filling. The waitress said that most people leave with a box and I believe it; the serving sizes were large and I came home with most of my side. I also got an African Queen drink and it was phenomenal. Fun music and TV up front. I'm excited to go back!

What a pleasant surprise the African Grill turned out to be. This large restaurant-bar filled with African art also serves up heaped plates of delicious pan-African dishes prepared and served by the restaurant owners themselves!

We sampled delicious gizzard kebabs and in house style samosa appetizers as well as nshima and tasty chicken topped with spinach & tomato relish AND chickpeas fufu with medallions of goat and plantains. The quality of produce was fresh, and that, in this day of over-processed-garbage is nothing short of genuine and ethical! Thank you!

We left appreciating the rich & complicated cultural convergences we tasted in each bite reminiscent of Southern African nshima & veggie relish with meat dishes and, at the same time, Afro-Cuban and Brazilian cuisine we were exposed to.
