I've been to High Alpine Brewing Company twice now, and my impressions haven't changed much. The first time, I ordered the "High Alpine" pizza, which came out overcooked with the crust burnt throughout, though the flavors were decent. My wife ordered the Beet and Goat Cheese salad with lemon champagne vinaigrette, which she absolutely loved. In fact, she ordered the same salad during our second visit!

On that second visit, my wife and I sat on the second-level deck. The atmosphere was pleasant, and it was quiet enough for conversation. However, the space is small--great for up to 4 people, but not ideal for larger groups. Larger groups would be more comfortable on the first floor.

We started with the hummus appetizer, which was fantastic. It came with olives on top and an assortment of sides, including garlic bread, red peppers, carrots, and cucumbers. The garlic bread, in particular, was amazing!

For my main dish, I tried "The Mountaineer" pizza. Unfortunately, it arrived at room temperature. The crust retained some heat, but the meat was cool, and the cheese lacked any pull. While the flavors were okay, the temperature was a letdown. My wife's salad, as always, was excellent.

As for pricing, I find it a bit steep. An 11-inch specialty pizza runs from the low to high $20s, and drinks are charged per refill. The menu is limited, offering just a couple of sandwiches, brats, salads, and pizzas. Service was about what you'd expect--nothing out of the ordinary.

Overall, I'd rate this place as average, but since my wife loves the salad so much, it earns an extra point.

We were let down by our visit here. The food looks great on the website. However, the mountaineer pizza was burned. It was pricey so we ate it. The Caesar salad with chicken was flavorful but the meat was cold (not hot were used to it being served). The sandwiches were good. The chicken came shredded - again, just not how we’re used to it. The pretzel was small for the price. (Edit to add that they were comparing it to the AMC Bavarian pretzel)

The water in the metal cups tasted weird. Since we thought it might be the metal cups, we didn’t order soda or lemonade. The ‘Green Gate’ beer was very good.

There was only one server in the whole place and he did an ok job. My impression is that it’s a brewery that serves expensive food. And if you’re going to have a wood fired pizza oven, you NEED to know how to use it. Burned or undercooked doesn’t work for me when I’m spending $26 for an 11” pizza. (*Edit to add: We owned pizza restaurants for years in Indiana. No matter how you are cooking it, you shouldn’t serve it when it’s BLACK on the bottom. And, I did do an internet search Scott - thanks for the advice!)

The atmosphere is a cool vibe tho. (Edit to add: my husband had been wanting to go there all week to try the beer so he was happy he got to do that. And everywhere we ate that week was expensive I’ll agree with that part for sure)

We went there not only because it’s a brewery, but because somebody said on a review, they had the best gluten-free pizza. Fire oven! Well, The review was right the gluten-free pizza was amazing. The price for the pizza not as amazing. I got a gluten-free crust, two kinds of cheeses, figs, and basil. It was $32. The non-alcoholic hibiscus sour was amazing. It’s exactly what you need when you don’t want to drink. It was sweet and sour.. I also had the beet salad. The beer was great too!

I love pizza and this place did not disappoint.

I know its a brewery, but their sodas are amazing, both the black cherry and orange cream were fantastic.

I made my own pizza and it was perfect. They do a New Jersey style pizza, which means a thin crust, and a bit crispy. This was cooked perfectly so one slice had a little char on it while the others almost got there but not quite. The cheese had a great flavor to it and the toppings were incredibly fresh.

One in our party had the prosciutto pizza, I tried a slice and it was very fresh as well. No slimyness and just a great flavor to it as well.

I could've probably eaten more, but I had to stop myself.

Very high quality pizza all around, especially for those that like New Jersey style thin crust pizza. If you are expecting or looking for something else, you might feel like you're being over-charged, but this is a wonderful example of thin crust pizza and is hands down worth a stop if you are in Gunnison and like thin crust pizza.

I suspect the beer is good too, but I didnt have any.

Very great craft brew brewed beer. I had the house IPA and the house IPA
They both were delicious. I prefer The House IPA because it’s a West Coast and had a bit more flavor. We also had the bratwurst and a pizza and they were excellent.

We stopped in Gunnison on our way to Montrose and saw that this place was filled with people and looked like a fun place to eat. We really enjoyed the atmosphere and the service. We did not order any beer as we were still driving that day, but we enjoyed the Pig and Fig Pizza, a Pepperoni Pizza, and the Brat. All really good options! I would definitely recommend if you are stopping through and in the mood for pizza!

Delicious food, delicious beer in a fantastic atmosphere. Our server was incredible, he was up and down the stairs all over the place and he was literally the only server there besides the bartender. Not once did we feel that he didn't take care of our needs, he was just that good - and the place was packed! Our only regret is that we didn't get his name so that we could sing his praises personally. We live 2.5 hours away, otherwise this would be our new favorite place to frequent. We WILL go whenever we're nearby, though.

So this was our first time to visit High Alpine. We started with the Salumi plate, which had a great variety of tastes and textures. We especially like the spicy sopresssata. Neext we shared the pig and fig pizza. The crust was perfect, crispy on the outside and chewy inside. The toppings were well applied and everything was perfectly balanced. I highly recommend High Alpine when you are in Gunnison, you won't regret it!
